Amsterdam Through My Lens: Concerts, Streets, and Cinematic Comparisons
During a recent trip to Amsterdam, I had the opportunity to capture a variety of memorable moments and scenes, from an electrifying concert to charming street photography. Here’s a glimpse into some of my favorite experiences and shots from this vibrant city. See the full album here.
A Magical Concert Experience One of the highlights of my trip was attending Mika's concert in Amsterdam. The performance was nothing short of spectacular, and I was thrilled to capture some of the magic through my lens. Even from the darkened back of the venue, my trusty Fujifilm X100F worked its magic, delivering stunning shots that truly reflect the energy and ambiance of the night. Mika’s presence on stage was angelic, and the concert was an unforgettable experience, both musically and visually.
Street Photography Adventures Amsterdam is a dream destination for street photographers, and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring its dynamic streets. From charming canals to bustling markets, the city offered endless photographic opportunities. One amusing moment came during the processing of my images when I noticed a fellow photographer still had their lens cap on—something we’ve all experienced at some point! Despite such little hiccups, street photography remains one of my favourite niches, and Amsterdam provided a perfect backdrop for capturing candid, lively scenes.
Film vs. Digital: A Comparative Series In addition to my digital captures, I took the opportunity to experiment with film photography during my trip. I compared 35mm expired Kodak Elite Chrome 200 film with my Fujifilm X100F using the Portra 400 film recipe. This series offers a fascinating look at how different mediums capture the essence of a city. For those interested in film photography, I also used the Yashica Samurai X3.0 for some of these shots, with the film developed by @takeiteasylab. The results are a beautiful blend of classic and contemporary photographic styles.
Exploring Amsterdam’s Icons Our trip included visits to some iconic locations, including the Ajax stadium, the picturesque windmills, and the fields of blooming tulips. Each site added its unique charm to our travel experience and provided diverse subjects for my photography.
Final Thoughts Amsterdam is a city that offers endless inspiration for photographers, whether you're capturing concerts, street scenes, or experimenting with different photographic techniques.
